No, that’s not what it’s about. It’s because he’s never noticed a woman that way before because usually he just dismisses them as useless, emotional, and/or evil. It has nothing to do with FEELINGS because Sherlock Holmes doesn’t romance and he doesn’t feel the way other people do (I firmly believe this). HE AIN’T GOT TIME FOR YOUR CRAP but he can respect Irene Adler because she totally bypassed all of his awesomeness and DISAPPEARED AND NEVER TALKED TO HIM AGAIN. And he was all dayum, she threw me for a loop! I totally underestimated her because she’s a chick and usually I ignore them as human beings but even though I’m awesome and male, she owned my face! THAT’S COOL I SHALL KEEP A PHOTO OF HER TO REMIND ME OF MY FAILURE AND ALSO TO REMIND ME THAT THERE’S A WOMAN OUT THERE THAT GIVES ME HOPE FOR WOMANHOOD. STILL PRETTY SEXIST BUT I AM LEARNING.
It doesn’t always have to be about romance. Sometimes it’s just about Respect for someone who beat you.
(on another note, why are modern IA versions always criminals? Why can’t she just be an intelligent, law-abiding lady who wants to marry the man she loves and not be manipulated by anyone, even SHERLOCK HOLMES?)
